5 Interesting Things To Know Before Moving To Barcelona Spain

Moving To Barcelona Spain

Moving To Barcelona? Here’s What You Need To Know

If you are moving to Barcelona, Spain you are in for a treat and possibly a 15lb weight gain with all those bars and cafes unless you can force yourself to jog along the miles of sandy beaches or swim in the beautiful blue sea!

Barcelona has just about everything you could ever possibly want. Mountains at the back, slowly sloping down to the ocean with great shops, boutiques, cafes, bars, restaurants, marinas, history, amazing buildings and architecture in between, coupled with chic locals with a warm friendly atmosphere.

Everyone knows you are going to get great tapas and paella when you visit Barcelona but here are some not so well known facts about Barcelona that will be of interest before you relocate here.

1: Since the 1992 Paralympics Barcelona has continued to improve access for everyone including sloping curbs in the streets, flashing and audible crossings, smooth paving, pedestrian streets and long flat promenades with ramps along the beaches and marinas as well as bus and taxi friendly too. The city is about 80% accessible for wheel chair use making it one of the best and safest cities for the disabled and wheel chair access. As a side note it also makes it heaven for all cyclists, skateboarders and skaters!!

2: It wasn’t until the city’s redevelopment for the 1992 Olympic Games that the city moved their industries away from the coast and converted the seaside area to nearly 3 miles of leisure area and first class beaches for locals and tourist alike.

3: The Spanish are stylish in everything they do. From their clothing to food preparation they take pride in presentation. This also is shown in the finish of apartments, hotels and offices. Expect very clean modern bathrooms and kitchens with the latest gadgets and security. Our apartment even had a heated toilet seat that glowed in the dark for some reason!

4: Barcelona is big! It is the largest city on the Mediterranean coast and the 6th most populated urban area in the European Union after Paris, London, Ruhr area, Madrid and Milan.

5: Pretty much everyone in Barcelona lives in an apartment. The roads are filled either side with parked cars or lined with motorcycles and scooters. There is very little chance of a large moving van getting to your residence and delivering without either a smaller shuttle van that can transfer from the big truck parked in a lorry park or lay by nearby and possibly a hydraulic ladder lift to transfer everything up to your apartment on the 3rd, 4th, 5th or beyond floor! These additions of course cost more money and probably will not be covered in your initial moving contract.

If you are planning to relocate for business or retire to Barcelona Spain, then you are truly a traveller with outstanding taste. This is one European city that has it all: sophistication, elegance, excellence, a long important history, fantastic architecture, amazing museums and fantastic, friendly people.
